Don and Martha were commissioned as evangelistic missionaries in June of 1991. Don had already been serving as a volunteer missionary in Mexico since 1980. In addition to his duties as an evangelist and church planter, Don also serves on the faculty of San Pablo Presbyterian Seminary in Merida, Yucatan, where he teaches Evangelism, New Testament and Pastoral Theology to the Mayan Indian students.

Don is currently managing the building of the new campus for San Pablo Seminary. This project is being funded by the PCUSA Outreach Foundation. Upon completion, the new facilities will enable San Pablo to quadruple the size of the student body.

Another project for Don is serving as Pastor of Puerta de Salvacion Presbyterian Church, a new congregation in Merida that has already grown to become a “sending church” by helping support an evangelist to an impoverished neighborhood on the other side of the city.

The Wehmeyers also assist in planning and coordinating mission work camps in the Yucatan for churches in the U. S. In July and August of this year a number of teams of Mexican youths are going to two indigenous communities to help them put on Vacation Bible School Programs for a week.
